I've tried safe mode and that wouldnt work either. The thing is though, is that I've done this a LOT of times on my old computer, and never had any problems. back in safe mode : installed Ccleaner and Spybot, ran both. It's a very slim chance but worth trying - I have seen this work before when XP showed the symptoms you describe. have a peek here

It cannot, it must be run from the CD. Not sure why it does that on the laptop. This primal method for starting my computer worked for a while but I knew it was not a permanent solution because I have been told hard drives are somewhat delicate. It takes less than a minute and is completely free!
I bought a new hard drive and cloned the old one hoping the old hard drive was the issue.
